is not supervised during
this time.
School Council
The school council is
the governing body of
the school. Four parent
representatives are
elected to council each
year.
P & C Association
The school has an active
P&C. Meetings are held
regularly. All parents
are welcome.
Canteen
Rockdale public school
is a leased canteen
which operates five days
a week, providing a wide
variety of healthy food
and snacks everyday.
Lunch orders need to be
placed before school.
This involves clearly
writing the students
name, class and order on
a paper bag and
including the money
inside.
School Medical Checks
Checks are conducted
yearly on a rotating
grade basis. A dental
clinic is situated on
the school grounds.
Parents need to ring the
clinic for an
appointment if their
child needs dental work.
A parent or carer must
accompany the child to
their appointment.
For appointments, please
call 1300 134 226
School Councillor
Is available to assist
you. Please phone the
school for an
appointment.
Absences
A note must be given to
the class teacher after
every absence. For
extended absences you
should phone the school
and leave a message for
the class teacher.
Overseas Travel
It is appreciated if
parents give the school,
in writing, details of
overseas travel,
especially the dates of
the absence.
The form for this
purpose is available
from the school office.
Accidents and
Illnesses
We can only treat minor
injuries such as grazes.
Medical attention is
sought for anything or a
serious nature.
Naturally, in the case
of a serious accident,
parents will be
contacted, and for this
reason, please ensure
that your Childs`
details are up to date
with address and phone
number (home, work,
mobile and emergency
contact such as a
neighbour or relative).
If your child requires
prescribed medication
during school hours, the
appropriate form needs
to be filled in at the
office before the
medication can be
administered.
Before and After
School Care
Is available at the
school. See the office
for a registration form.
Scripture Classes
Are held each Tuesday
morning by visiting
representatives of
Anglican, Catholic,
Muslim, Macedonian
orthodox religions.
Lost Property
Is kept in the clinic or
outside the infants
office. Please see that
all items of uniforms
and all children's
possessions have your
child's first AND last
name.
Collecting Children
after School
Please be prompt.
Children usually become
distressed if parents do
not arrive on time. It
is very difficult for
teachers to remain after
school, to care for the
children.
If you are delayed,
please phone the school.
Road Safety
Parents are requested to
be most particular about
observing the parking
regulations that
operate. You are
requested not to double
park or stand where it
is not allowed.
Excursions
Excursions are an
important part of
learning and the
children benefit greatly
from them. Excursions
occur for all grades,
kindergarten to year 6,
from simple visits to
the zoo, a trip on a
ferry, a visit to the
museum or a tour of The
Rocks.
Excursions are organised
to enhance and stimulate
class work. Permission
slips and money should
be returned to the class
teacher for recording
purposes.
School uniform must also
be worn unless advised
otherwise.
Meet the Teacher
Night
This is held early in
the year to inform
parents of stage
expectations and an
overview of the years`
planned program. Class
routines / rules,
expectations are also
covered.
Assessing and
Reporting at Rockdale
Public School
We use many methods to
assess and report on the
learning progress of all
children. The teachers
continually assess to
gather and interpret
information which is
then used to shape the
teaching program for
your Childs` learning.
Some of the methods used
to assess your Childs`
knowledge, skills and
attitudes include:
- one to one
conferencing
- observing and noting
what your child can and
cannot do and how your
child works during
learning activities
- using various forms of
testing
- setting tasks and
assignments to be
completed and
achievement noted
- using student self
assessment
- responding to feedback
from parents and other
support staff
Immunisation
Requirements of School
Under The Public Health
Act
The Public Health Act
1991 now requires school
principals to:
1. Request that parents
provide the school with
an immunisation history
statement on enrolment
of their child.
2. Notify the public
health unit of any case
of a vaccine-preventable
disease.
3. On the direction of
the Public Health Unit,
exclude un-immunised
children.
